Obituary of Dorothy May Tihanovich
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy May (Smith) Tihanovich, 90, of Beaver Falls, PA, went to be with her Lord on November 27, 2021. She spent her final days in her "prayer room" where she spent countless hours talking with the Lord and praying for her family, her friends, and the needs of this broken world.
She was born on April 2, 1931, the daughter of Nathaniel Henry and Freda Clara Smith in Detroit, Michigan. Dorothy had a beautiful singing voice and sang professionally for several years. She married Walter Philip Tihanovich of Ford City, PA on July 17, 1954. He preceded her in death in January 1991.
Dorothy graduated from Seton Hill College and became a pre-school and kindergarten teacher. She also taught piano lessons. She impacted the lives of hundreds of children with her love, her faith and her compassion. She retired from teaching in her early 70's.
She was an avid reader and had studied every book of the Bible. Her words of wisdom and Biblical advice were a comfort to her family and friends who leaned on her often for her loving words of compassion. Her love for the Lord was immeasurable. And her greatest hope was for all to know the Lord.
Dorothy was the best mother anyone could ever hope for and a joy to her children until her final breath. She is survived by her four children: Nicole (William) Lee, Saginaw, MI, Jeanne (Brad) Herr, Beaver Falls, PA, Annette Tihanovich of Beaver Falls, PA and Matthew (Kate) Tihanovich, Tampa, FL. She adored her four grandchildren and was so proud of them: Alex Herr, Beaver Falls, PA, Cassie (Bo) Collins, Munhall, PA, and Christian and Caitlin Tihanovich, Tampa, FL. She is also survived by her brother John (Eunice) Smith, Loudon, TN as well as nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her brother Herbert Smith and sister Natalie Harries.
Her wish was to have no services but instead to celebrate her life with shouts of joy and praise music. Therefore, a celebration of life open house will be held on December 12, 2021 between 2-4 p.m. at her home in Beaver Falls. Please contact Campbell's Funeral Home for the address if needed. In lieu of any flowers or gifts, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to either of her favorite charities: City Rescue Mission of New Castle, PA or International Childcare Ministries (ICCM).
Thank you to all who showed so much love to our mother throughout her lifetime, especially in her final years.
