I was thinking of Pat and I've just read her obituary. It was surely written with love. Our family lived next door to Pat, on Wilksboro Avenue in Brighton Heights, for 22 years. She was a dear and treasured neighbor and friend.
Each 4th of July we would have a backyard picnic with family, and of course Pat. Afterward, we would lay blankets on the grass and watch the kids enjoy our own fireworks. One particularly dry year, the boys managed to start a small, but impressive blaze beside Pat's carport, where her beloved 'Sadie' was parked. Pat never flinched as they sprung into action with buckets and hoses. Sadie was safe. Pat said, "I wasn't worried."
She also had the most incredible knack for composing a casserole from Thanksgiving left-overs, that was inspiring and unusual, but very delicious. She layered everything, including cranberry sauce, topped with mashed potatoes, and finally gravy. Her reasoning was, "why heat everything up separately, it's all going to the same place?" Only Pat, right?
She was the best. We all loved her. Our condolences to her beloved family.
