As my son mentioned just today, we as a family were all in awe of Dr. Zuberbuhler. I took Richard to Children's Hospital in 1969, shortly after we had moved to Pennsylvania from Texas, where he had been previously treated for Congenital Heart Disease. Dr. Zuberbuhler was always the smiling, cordial doctor who saw Rich for many years as he grew up, even into his 30s. After Rich married a young woman who also had CHD, she went to Childrens a time or two and also saw Dr. Zube. Many years his outreach touched our lives. My sympathies and prayers go to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He truly had a gentle touch and a kind heart. Rest peacefully Doc.

As I'm sure there are many patients lives he changed I am but one. Tube was one of my pediatric cardiologists and took care of me until I was 32 y.o. I went to a golf outing with him, as an invited guest, because of my volunteering with Dr. Neches Heart Camp. I was teamed with Zube, Dr. Fred Sherman, and another doc. Zube appointed me Captain. A week later he called me at work and told me what a pleasure it was to golf with me. The honor was all mine. In a day and age when most doctors think themselves elite, Dr. James Zuberbuhler thanked a "lowly" patient for the pleasure of golfing with me. What a humble and selfless man. I am honored to call him friend.

My condolences to the family of this gentleman of a wonderful repute. I did not know him personally but worked with his daughter. I am sorry for your loss, Mary and Bruce and all of you who are grieving. He sounds even more incredible than Mary described. She is humble. The children have lost a dedicated doctor.

My sincere condolences to Zube's family. I was a Pediatric Cardiology fellow at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh from 2004-07 and began shortly after his retirement. He came back for noon conference lectures on occasion and was an excellent teacher. I've heard countless stories of his legendary diagnostic prowess and the amazing care he provided to his many patients over the years. I continue to treasure the Pediatric Cardiology textbook he authored, as well as the round of golf I got to play with him and Lee Beerman. He is truly a legend and will be missed by many.
